Descrizione : La Greene King produce dal 1799 questa India Pale Ale, birra dalle particolarissime origini. Si dice infatti che un carico di birra diretto alle colonie inglesi in India, a causa di una tempesta, naufragò poco prima di arrivare in porto, e quando, qualche mese dopo, il relitto fu ritrovato, alcune botti di birra sopravvissuta furono aperte e bevute. Questa birra, invecchiando per lungo periodo, aveva preso un sapore molto particolare, e fu deciso di riprodurla in patria. In realtà, le birre che partivano dall'Inghilterra e giungevano in India, dovevano sopportare un viaggio che variava dai 3 ai 6 mesi, quindi veniva aggiunto zucchero e luppolo alla bevanda per farla conservare meglio, ma questo alterava sia la gradazione, sia il sapore della birra.
Le IPA hanno quindi una gradazione leggermente più alta di altre inglesi, anche se quella che potete trovare in England è 3,9 gradi, la versione normale in bottiglia raggiunge i 5%, comunque molto leggera per i nostri palati.
Al naso predominano i profumi secchi dei luppoli usati, con note dolci di caramello e liquirizia, mandorla, noce e un fruttato leggerissimo di prugna; la particolarità evidente aprendone una bottiglia, è l'intensità stessa del profumo, tanto che spesso anche i tavolini intorno sentono questa delizia a distanza!
Al palato si notano molto l'amarezza mai troppo forte, quasi vellutata, molto fresca e quasi "croccante", con un'accenno sempre di sottofondo di caramello leggermente bruciato e zucchero di canna, mentre il retrogusto predominante è sempre l'amarognolo del luppolo, sensazione che ci accompagna anche per diversi minuti dopo il primo sorso.
Sicuramente una birra dissetante, ma anche impegnativa e non facile da bere, a causa dell'elevata amarezza per molti, in realtà è proprio questa qualità che la rende peculiare e rinfrescante, ottima birra da conversazione, da aperitivo e fine pasto.
Si serve anche leggermente più fredda, magari intorno ai 9°, in modo da apprezzare le varie sfumature di profumo e sapore che ha questo capolavoro pluripremiato da clienti e esperti del settore.
Consigliata con crostacei e carni bianche dal forte aroma, come la lepre, magari anche con un risotto allo zafferano, molto difficile trovare invece un dolce a cui abbinarla, resta sempre una fantastica birra da bere in qualsiasi momento.

Description:  This India Pale Ale is produced by the Greene King brewery since 1799, beer with peculiar origins.It is said that a load of beer direct to the British colonies in India, because of a storm, sank shortly before arriving in port, and when, a few months later, the wreckage was found, some barrels of beer survived, were opened and drunk. This beer, aging for a long period, had a very peculiar taste, so was decided to reproduce in the motherland.In fact, the beer that was shipped from England to India, had to endure a journey ranged from 3 to 6 months, so were added sugar and hops to the brew to make it last longer, but that altered the alcohol and the the flavor of beer. The IPA therefore have a slightly higher alcohol content rather than other British beer, even if what you find in England is about 3.9 degrees, the normal version in a bottle reaches 5%, still very light for italian palates. The nose scents predominate dry smells of the hops used, with sweet notes of caramel and liquorice, almond, walnut and a light fruitiness of plum; it's particular feature is clear in opening the bottle, and it's his aroma's intesity, so powerful that many times the tables around feel this delight from a distance! To the palate can be noticed its bitterness, never too strong, 

almost smooth, very cool and almost "crunchy" with a bit always in the background of caramel slightly burned and sugarcane, while the aftertaste 
predominant is the bitterness of hops, feeling that accompanies us for several minutes after the first sip. 
Certainly a refreshing beer, but also challenging and not so easy to drink, because of the bitterness for many, in fact it is precisely this quality that makes it unique and refreshing, excellent beer for conversation, 
cocktails and in the end of the meal. 
It could be drunk even slightly cooler, perhaps around 9° in order to appreciate the various nuances of aroma and flavors that have this masterpiece, award-winning beer. 
Recommended with shellfish and white meat with a strong 
aroma, as the hare, perhaps even with a saffron risotto; very difficult to find is adessert that combine, is still a fantastic beer to drink in any time.
